Languages

When using Definer, you'll encounter two different language settings:

  1. Language of the interface: The language used for Definer's menus, buttons, and settings.
  2. Language of the results: The language in which information from various data sources appears.

Both can be configured in Definer OptionsLanguages.

Interface

The interface language controls all the text elements in Definer's graphical interface - menus, buttons, settings descriptions, and other UI elements.

Currently, Definer's interface is available in three languages:

  • English
  • Russian
  • Polish

English is the default language, but Definer is smart enough to automatically switch to Russian or Polish if that's your browser's language setting when you first install the extension.

Results

The results language determines which language(s) your information appears in when you look something up with Definer.

You'll need to configure a prioritized list of languages that tells Definer how to search for results and in what order to display them.

When you first install Definer, it attempts to set up your language list based on your browser's language settings, but you can customize this anytime.

How to use it

Create a list of languages you understand, and arrange them in order of preference. The language with priority 1 is your most preferred language, and Definer will show results in this language first whenever possible.

If no results are available in your top priority language, Definer automatically falls back to your second priority language, and so on down your list.

Keep in mind that language availability varies by data source - some encyclopedias, dictionaries, translation services, or other information providers may only support certain languages.

How to add a new language

Adding a new language to your list is simple:

  1. Click the ADD LANGUAGE button
  2. Select your desired language from the dropdown list

The language list follows the ISO 639-1 standard, which includes most major languages in the world.
