Languages
When using Definer, you'll encounter two different language settings:
- Interface language: Controls how Definer itself communicates with you via graphical interface (menus, buttons, settings)
- Results language: Determines which languages your lookups and translations appear in
Both can be configured in Definer Options → Languages.

Interface
The interface language controls all the text elements in Definer's graphical interface - menus, buttons, settings descriptions, and other UI elements.
Definer's user interface (UI) in Russian
Currently, Definer's interface is available in three languages:
- English
- Russian
- Polish
English is the default language, but Definer is smart enough to automatically switch to Russian or Polish if that's your browser's language setting when you first install the extension.

Results
The results language is all about the content you're looking up - it determines which language(s) your definitions, translations, and other information appear in.
You'll create a prioritized list of languages that guides Definer in how to search for and display results. Think of it as your personal language preference ranking.
When you first install Definer, it attempts to set up your language list based on your browser's language settings, but you can customize this anytime.
Results language options
Keep in mind that not all data sources support every language - some dictionaries, encyclopedias, or translation services may only work with specific languages.
List of Languages
Your language list tells Definer which languages you know or are learning, arranged in order of preference.
The language with priority 1 is your primary language (the one you most want results in), priority 2 is your second choice, and so on down the line.
To add a new language:
- Click the ADD LANGUAGE button
- Select your desired language from the dropdown list
Adding a new language
Definer uses the ISO 639-1 standard for its language list, which includes most major languages in the world.
Mode
The mode setting determines how Definer applies your language preferences when displaying results. You have two options: Default and Remember Last.
Default
In Default mode, Definer always tries to show results in your highest-priority language first. If nothing's available in that language, it automatically falls back to your second choice, then third, and so on.
This is perfect if you primarily want results in your target language, with fallbacks for when that's not available.
Remember Last
With Remember Last mode, Definer adapts to your browsing patterns by remembering which language you last used for results.
For example, if you're reading an article in Spanish and switch your results to Spanish using the language picker, Definer will continue showing Spanish results for subsequent lookups, even if your top priority language is English.
This is particularly useful for language learners who might be working in different languages throughout the day.
