How to Get a Google Gemini API Key
Step 1: Create a Google AI Studio account
First, go to the Gemini API website and click Sign In to Google AI Studio. Follow the steps to either create a new account or sign in using your existing Google credentials.
Step 2: Create an API Key
After signing in to Google AI Studio, dismiss any informational pop-ups that may appear on your screen.
Locate the Get API key button at the top left of the screen and click it.
Next, click the Create API key button.
Review and dismiss the safety settings reminder. Then, click the Create API key in new project button.
Google will now generate a new API key for you. Once it appears, copy the key and close the pop-up window.
Important: Make sure to keep your API key secure. If someone else gets access to your key, they could use it without your permission, potentially disabling your endpoint. Only share the key with trusted individuals who truly need it.
Step 3: Enter Your API Key into Definer
- Right-click on the Definer icon located next to the address bar, then select "Definer Options".
- Go to the "Sources" page and find the "AI" source in the list.
- Click on "Settings".
- In the "Provider" field, choose "Google".
- Paste your newly created API key into the "API Key" field.
By following these steps, you’ve successfully integrated Google Gemini with the Definer popup dictionary browser extension.
